The Mighty Oak
By Bobby Johnson

The mighty Oak by the water grew,
deep in its trunk bees had their hive
until the oak up and died.

Its branches once spread far and wide,
now they look like they have been skinned alive.
Then the rains came fast and furious
and made the river so high it was getting serious.
The Oaks dead roots couldn’t take the ride
and the mighty Oak fell like a giant.

It is sad to see the Oak laying there
but, now the turtles use it to dry their shells.
Even though the Oak is dead,
its still doing a service on the river bed.

The River
By Bobby Johnson

The river is peacefully and it looks emerald green,
when the sun shines on it, it actually gleams.
The fish break the water and turtles float on top
when they tire of the sun
that’s when you hear a plop.

Then the sky opened up and it rains for days,
the river looks angry and shows it dismay.
It over flows its banks,
it can not be held back,
the speed and furry it does not lack.
Its color changes from emerald to clay
I don’t like seeing the river this way.

All of a sudden as fast as it happened, the flooding is done,
and the river starts to returning to how it begun.
The river is now peaceful and emerald green,
the critters in the river are happy just like me.
