Veggie gathering

Margret our neighbor called yesterday morning and asked if we could use some peas, of course, could always use fresh peas, so I went over there and she had picked a 5 gallon pail full of peas. It came down to 3 huge Wal-mart sacks full. I started hulling and in case you didn't realize, on hug bag equals one quart zip lock of peas. Which means, a lot of hulls!!!! Oh well, will taste mighty good with some ham hock in them!
No one has had much luck with tomatoes this year, I have looked everywhere for fresh tomatoes. I guess because at the first of spring, we had LOTS of rain, then it went straight to really hot weather. But, look how much I found at Margret's. She and her sister Darlene are always so generous with the veggies they grow and I certainly appreciate getting the.
Cumcumbers are another item not doing well, there was only 3 cukes for the taking and yes, I got them!! Yeah. Okra is not doing well either, you would think they would do well in all this hot weather but, I haven't seen any that looks like they will be putting out any, or at least very much.
Sitting there hulling peas made me think of the old days, you know, getting ready for the winter by putting up veggies from the garden. Other than purple thumbs, it was fun hulling peas on a hot day, sitting inside, watching TV.
